2011, marks the birth of a new year and with that comes new beginnings and so fittingly is the title to Thomas Osaze’s latest afro-percussive release entitled “The New Birth.” The “Original” is a driving peaktime piece that features the signature African chant that is found throughout the mixes as well as some stabby synth lines that come later in the track to keep you rockin well into the night. Things warm with the “Into The Light Mix” while still maintaining a driving rhythm track and chords that cascade over you like a warm sunrise. “Distant Voices Mix” takes a turn for the lush and deep with a nice organic appeal that is perfect for the more intimate setting. “The New Birth” also features a bonus “Tribal Drum and Vocal Mix” which plays very DJ friendly for those who look to put their own
’spin’ on this infectious groove. A track that is sure to heat up some dance floors around the globe. Play Loud!

What more can be said about this soulful industry legend. Mr. Everett represents the “Windy City” of Chicago in full effect and never stops doing what he does best and, that, is to make quality soulful music for us to enjoy. Highly prolific and always working it comes as no surprise that Peven once again graces us with a TRUE SOUL classic!

“Sweetness is.” IS everything we love about soul music. Expressiveness, passion and emotion is all found inside this little gem of a song. The track features two remixes first is a ‘stellar’ rendition by Russian prodigy KOYLA that is sweet like candy, layered throughout with gorgeous counter melodies that compliment Peven’s sultry chord structure to perfection. The other is by Rom and JoJo Flores with an upbeat feel to the groove with a more 4 on the floor swing to keep your feet tappin and hands clapping. “Sweetness is” definitely one for the soulheads!

Freedom!

We had no idea Zaki’s song of freedom would land to fit the moment perfectly as people are fighting for their rights around the world once again. A song for the struggle against the establishment, Zaki’s “Wake With Day The Day” elegantly spreads the message in this soulful Jazz Composition by Koyla.

Russia meets South Africa, taking the soulful vocal stylings of Zaki Ibrahim and teams her up with one of St. Petersburg’s fastest rising Jazz and Electronica producers ‘Koyla.’ The end result..? A beautiful production that has all the right touches of nu jazz and neo soul wrapped up into one graceful tune, “Wake With The Day.”

Atlanta, Georgia-born singer – songwriter April Hill is a fresh talent on the east coast soul scene with songs that resonate with authenticity and power. Today is the result of a collaboration with her writing/producing partner Marlon Saunders. They deliver the goods with Today, one of the standouts from Hill’s debut album, Love 360. Hill’s unique vocal styling reigns supreme here in this cool soulful affair on love gone wrong.

Chicago’s J & J Soultempo, JayceeIndaMix and Jere McAllister, deliver a smooth groove affair with their Soultempo mix. Perfectly balanced Afro drums and warm chord arrangements define the laidback feel of the composition. The free-flow energy lives on in their Late Night Dub cut with a more resounding vibe on the b-line. The 2moro mix by masterful UK house duo DeepCitySoul is a higher energy dance cut with a brilliant shakedown that stretches the rhythmic vibe into a warm floor-sizzler with harmonious synth chords, guitar and sax licks.

This soulful disco-influenced jam is the result of a recent collab between Sweden-based Canadian vocalist Amalia aka Miz Fuze, known for her work with Opolopo, Sekoya and Atjazz, along with producer Koyla (Nikolay Sere- bryakov), one of Russia’s most promising jazz composers. A lush, melodic vocal by Amalia dances over a rhythmic nu-jazz musical bed that hits it with a thick bassline, brilliant chord changes and glossy string arrangements, including background vocals by Tim Fuller. This track is cookin’, on many disco and funk levels. Remix by Montreal’s Miguel Graca has a thick retro-funk vibe, while the Awaaz cut delivers a full body bumpin’ dubbed out afro late night groove.

One of Russia’s finest emerging artists, Koyla is a multi-talented musician currently breaking ground across the realms of jazz-fusion, disco, house and techno. Recent projects include his latest release, Promised Land, a soulful house classic also on Bombay. His forays into minimal techno include performing and composing with his original live techno band, Derknob, and collaborations with DJ Primat and Right2Dance. On the jazz-fusion front, his band Fun 2 Mass is one of St. Petersburg’s most widely-acclaimed live acts, playing across Europe with groups such as Incognito and Brand New Heavies. Vastly gifted and making a serious mark across several musical genres, Koyla is a name you will soon become familiar with.

Chicago’s J & J are ripping up the house circuit with their soulful sound, emerging from an exciting music scene coming out of Chicago in recent years. “In Ur Presence” is an uplifting and inspirational vocal masterpiece written and performed by gospel legend Terry Moore. This is the second release on Bombay featuring this collaboration and follow-up to “Some Kinda Good”.

The smooth soulful gospel sound of Terry Moore is taken to the next level with these new remixes on songs from his album “Right Where U Are”. J & J ‘s Broken Vision mix takes the cut into the Nu Jazz beats realm with sweet chord progressions that keep the song building and add power to the arrangement, peaking with a crescendo of rich back up vocal harmonies. The Soul Inspiration mix takes it into a deeper vibe with edgy percussions and horns, adding a smoother mix to the release.

Relentless as any artist Peven Everett has the knack of putting out lots of beautiful unique songs. Voted number one RnB artist n Chicago Peven has a massive following of soul heads around the world. We at Bombay have big fans from day one with his early work with Roy Davis Jr. and the classic Bombay release Men From The Nile “Watch Them Come”. His career has seen him drop some classic records including the “studio Confessions” project.

His Bombay releases are 2 dance floor cuts from his deep collection. “Heat Up”, a catchy vocal cut on a super funky groove with warm keys and a bumping bassline. Along with “When We’re Together” a Chicago style dance floor loop with layered with Peven’s infectious harmonies. The additional Heat Up Club Edit courtesy of the Awaaz kids adds a thump and snap to the song for people who like that.

New artists on Bombay, Chicago’s J & J Soultempo come with a strong Gospel Influenced late night slammer for the dance floor. Featuring vocals from the renowned Terry Moore combined with the soulful Chicago acid house production of J & J Soultempo, this release has a real early nineties Murk style Deep house sound with modern production. Jason Ferguson “Jaycee” and Jere McAlllister are emerging from a strong community of the new generation of producers and musicians based in Chicago that will be turning heads in this genre. “Some Kinda Good” agrees with the New York vibey heads as well as the Chicago and Detroit kids with powerful vocals and lyrics jelled with an infectious dirty groove and smooth pads, pure classic house!!
